Having just compared the Visual Land Android 4.0 Prestige models 7 and 7L, it is only fitting to also compare the “Connect” model as well. I was unable to find proper comparisons of these 3 tablets on the internet, so I decided to create them myself!
Again, I am not promoting any particular tablet, but I do want to fill in all the knowledge gaps for this upcoming holiday season, which will see shoppers tripping over mountains of different tablets (of which I will probably compare many). The more you know about them, the better buying decisions you can make!
Solid Tip: The Prestige and Connect models are nearly identical. Read on for the necessary information, but buying one over the other won’t be a big deal.
OS: Android Operating System
The Connect model is available in two different Android setups. You will likely encounter the newer version, but just in case you stumble across a super-cheap loss leader version on Black Friday, you will want to make sure. That version would likely be an older 2.3 Android OS. I have seen the newer one advertised on Amazon, Walmart, Tiger Direct, etc, sometimes even with a nice leather case.
Hardware: Prestige vs Connect
External hardware (the bezel) is the main difference between the two models. The Connect 7 inch tablet features some actual buttons on the front, as shown in the picture above. The Prestige is a hair smaller (by a quarter inch length) and uses only the touch screen.
The buttons also mean the Connect model weighs 3 ounces more. Not something you will notice.
Model | Controls | Size | Weight |
---|---|---|---|
Connect | Touch+buttons | 7.75″ x 4.75″ x 0.5″ | 13 oz |
Prestige | Touch only | 7.50″ x 4.70″ x 0.4″ | 10 oz |
Internal hardware is the same between the two models of tablet.
- 8 gigabytes storage
- MicroSD card expansion up to 32 gigabytes
- 512 megabytes DDR3 RAM
- WiFi enabled
- 1 speaker, 1 headphone jack, 1 mini USB, 1 mic built-in
- 1.3 megapixel front camera
- 5 point capacitive touch screen
- 16:9 800×480 pixel 7 inch screen
- battery life of 8 hour use or 5 day standby
- Adobe Flash 11 installed
Software: Prestige vs Connect
Pre-loaded software slightly varies on the two models. Both models come pre-loaded with:
Web Browser, Super-HD Video Player, Music Player, GetJar, E-mail, PDF Reader, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, SWF Player, File Manager, Sound Recorder
Prestige model also includes:
DocumentsToGo, Netflix, Skype, Sugarsync, IMDB, Angry Birds, Recipes, Evernote, Fruit Ninja, 1Mobile, Kindle, Sprinkle, Scramble, Aldiko, YouTube
That’s it
Largely the same tablet, only some pre-loaded software and case design differentiates these two tablets. You will no doubt see them advertised this 2012 holiday season.
From what I see in the specs on bestbuy.com the Connect seems to have an HDMI output connector while the Prestige doesn’t. That’s a significant difference if true. I am only going by what i saw on the best buy website, so I am assuming that is accurate, but it may not be. Can you confirm?
Just realized you were comparing the Prestige to the Connect. On the Bestbuy site I saw the Prestige 7L and the Connect. Prestige 7L is missing the hdmi out.
Hi John, there is a link above to a Prestige 7 and Prestige 7L comparison also. The 7L or “7 Lite” version doesn’t have HDMI and the processor is slower. Connect VS Prestige 7 is simply a packaging difference.
Both the Connect and Prestige 7 are a slightly improved version of the Prestige 7L.
I have purchased the Connect 9″ from Visual Land at Walmart. According to the selling info on the Walmart page the 9″ model already has Kindle, Skype, Netflix & a bunch of other apps preloaded. Is this a newer version of the Connect 7″ you have just compared above? Have you seen it?
No, they have different sets of apps. The 9″ tablet has all the pre-installed apps that come on the Prestige 7″ model.
