As promised, here is the article on setting up the Logitech G27 (or G25) with Test Drive Unlimited 2 PC. This article was originally it’s placeholder during the game’s Beta period, but has become too popular to convert.
Due to the popularity of this topic and the confusion surrounding setting up steering wheels, I will be updating this current article to assist gamers in enjoying their various other wheels on PC, PS3, and Xbox360. If you post a comment about your wheel experience, be sure to say which platform it is for.
I moved the troubleshooting section down below to make room for the quickly expanding “unofficial wheel list.”
First… the Officially Supported Devices
- GamePads
- Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
- Logitech Dual Action Gamepad
- Steering Wheels
- Logitech G25 Racing Wheel
- Logitech Driving Force GT
- Logitech Driving Force Pro
- Logitech MOMO Force
- Logitech G27 Racing Wheel
- Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel
And Unofficially…
I’ve been in contact with a lot of gamers in the racing community regarding what works and what doesn’t. I decided to put together a table showing wheels that have been confirmed working.
This list is being built by you, for you. Your feedback is encouraged to help fill out this list and correct user error. Comment with your experience of wheel or pad and which platform you play on at the bottom of the article.

TDU2 Wheel Troubleshooting Tips
Since wheel issues are a huge TDU2 topic right now, I’ll start with some tips that should help eliminate a good portion of the trouble everyone is experiencing.
- Steering: Both PC and console users should set ‘Steering Sensitivity’ to the left. It appears to be backwards.
- Console Users: Turn off other controllers on your PS3 or Xbox when attempting to use the wheel.
- Software: PC users, be sure to use your wheel’s profiler/setup software.
- Driving Aid: A game option that is on “full” by default. May make your wheel feel like its reacting strangely. Try both off and on.
- Rotation: TDU2 allows for custom wheel rotation settings up to 900°. 200 is the normal setting for this game. Set this up in your wheel profiler if your wheel supports it.
- Car’s Wheel: Don’t compare the car’s wheel turning to your physical wheel. They probably won’t match. TDU1 could show 1:1 steering between the in-game wheel and a PC wheel, referred to as wheel linearity. TDU2 does not.
- Pedals (PC): Logitech, Fanatec, and Thrustmaster wheels have both a
combined
and aseparate
pedal option. TDU2 utilizesseparate
pedals. Set this up in your wheel profiler. If your car is revving and not moving, this is the problem. - Gearbox: By default, TDU2 is set to Automatic transmission. If you wondered why your shifter or paddles are not working, you need to enter Options > Game Settings and select Sequential, H-Shifter, or H-Shifter and Clutch.
- Global Settings: Logitech users: Make sure global settings don’t override game settings. This concerns combined pedals, degrees of rotation, and FFB strengths. G25/G27 owners refer to my global settings guide.
- Vibration: Vibration settings may sound like a ‘rumble’ feature but turning it down means you won’t feel anything when driving in a straight line.
- Fanatec Owners: A grinding noise has been reported when Fanatec wheels are centered. Until a patch is issued, one user suggests setting controller linearity to the left and setting the Fanatec sensitivity setting to 360 or more.
- Fanatec Owners: It’s reported that the clutch doesn’t work. Can anyone confirm this is cross-platform? I know it’s happening on Xbox360.
- General: You cannot connect a wheel while the game is running. Plug it in then restart the game.
- General: Make sure no other controller devices are plugged in.
- General: If applicable, be sure you have your wheel powered in addition to USB cords.
- Game Wont Recognize Wheel: At least one of every wheel that is confirmed to work has not been recognized by someone’s PC version of TDU2. This includes Logitech, Fanatec, Thrustmaster, and Apollo. This problem seems widespread around the community and no known cause has been identified (yet). One user tried multiple brands of wheels, none of which would be detected by the game. Most users have overcome this by manually setting up their controls.
Device Detection
From the game’s readme file:
To switch from Keyboard controls to one of the game controllers, go to the “Controls” section in the options menu, select the button “Detect Device”, and scroll through the options to select and validate your device.
Of course, support is not limited to only these devices. TDU2 includes automatic device detection and allows you to map your buttons any way you want, but so far the results have been spotty.
It can be quite the task to setup your controls for the first time, since there are more functions available than keys to support them, even on the Logitech G27.
In addition to the standard fare like “Return to Road” and “Change View,” you have to find a good spot for horn, windows, roof (if applicable), radio on/off, radio volume, turn signals, and even seventh gear.
Wheel Options
Like TDU, the sequel allows you to choose your shifter style- paddle shifters, H-shifter, or H-shifter with clutch. It also brings back linearity and sensitivity sliders. However, these sliders don’t necessarily improve the experience.
The biggest difference between the first game’s control scheme is support for force feedback. The original game dropped the ball on that one and had no FFB after being patched to version 1.66.
The force feedback itself is nothing to write home about and certainly sub-par, especially when compared to Shift or Grid. I guess in a marketplace littered with games having no feedback support at all (Hot Pursuit, Blur, Split Second), things could be much worse.

What a great site ! Sorry for my english.
I searched for few month this kind of informations. I’m not a sim gamer. I prefer casual gaming. And i’ve got all of the NFS PC games, Dirt2 and Race Driver GRID.
There is no site like this one in France. And i didn’t know if the G27 was as good enough for the casual gaming.
Thanks a lot. It helps me. Now, I know that i can buy it without problem. In France, actually, it costs 216€ (280$).
I will put this site in my prefered bookmarks 🙂
I wanted to add to this and thank the writers for a great article.
The Gamestop PS3 Wheel that you can purchase from Gamestop and made by PDP, Performance Designed Products, works in Test Drive Unlimited 2 PS3 version. The Wheel does not have force feedback but does have vibration. Pedals and shifter work but you have to set the pedals using the on device program setting that is explained in the instructions. The game TDU 2 has no settings in game that change the wheel as far as I can tell other than some of the vibration, dead zone and other slider adjustments.
The wheel is pretty good but has its limitations, after all it does only cost $80 but works decently enough.
Thanks for the compliments! The G27 is a great purchase. I have not had any problems in the year I have used it.
Jeff- I will add your wheel to the PS3 list.
What about wheel support for thrustmaster f430 with the manettino dial
Sina, are you asking about PS3 or PC?
For the PC, it is known that the beta does not include preset files for any Thrustmaster wheels, but you can still assign the buttons, wheel, and pedals. As far as the Ferrari Manetinno switch, that’s totally up in the air.
If you are asking about the PS3, then I’m still waiting for confirmation from the community.
Warning!
I have G25 and it have preset only for buttons, and H shift with clutch. There is no force feedback, there is no 900deg, 720deg or any other you want to have. You cant confige it in game. Steering rate depends on position ingame steering wheel not yours. Well i hope they fix it fast, becouse you can setup steering wheel better in RPG games. TDU1 have perfect support so i dont get it.
i have a thrustmaster ferrari gt experience racing wheel and a thrustmaster dual analog 3 gamepad none of which is detected automatically (had to manually assign functions). needless to say that there is no force feed back for the wheel. i recently bought a cheap german game (crash time iv) which had crispier graphics, full wheel and gamepad support and excelent force feedback. and they made it with perhaphs 1/30th of the budget!!! come on guys. you should try harder!!!
@Bill, are you playing on the PC or PS3? Another player confirmed the Ferarri GT wheel works.
@LS, same question. The G25 is one of the fully supported wheels for the PC version.
I own a Logitech Driving Force GT, I have been playing on PS3 format and it is very limited as far as options. There is sliders for Dead Zone, Dampering and sensitivity, however after trying different settings with these, I still have no response towards the middle/center of the wheel. I have to basically oversteer to turn slightly. My wheel works great when hooked up to the PC – Dirt 2, rFactor etc.. Hope Devs release a patch via PSN, I was looking on the Ps3 menu, is there any where to make adjustments to the wheel from the console’s OS?
Hi Ryan, I was able to duplicate your symptom. It was due, in this case, to the ‘Steering Sensitivity’ slider. Increasing it to the right make it LESS sensitive (at least for Logitech). When put all the way up, I was unable to turn. I definitely will leave this all the way left.
I play on PC, i have all drivers and i tried to setu my g25 ,but it is the worst example of wheel settings in game history. Iam no hater but i just can find any good idea in this setting concept, the ingame wheel even react slower then real wheel. This game is like some kind of crappy beta version. We need fix and fast, becouse at this point i cant recomend to buy this game.
i can confirm the ferrari f430 wheel works in tdu2 but needs to be configured manually (no auto-detect)
force feedback works too but is not as good as in f1 2010 for instance but feels nice when auto-centering of the wheel is enabled.
Hello,
I bought a new F430 and TDU2, how can i configure my wheel in the game?
Game does not work with thrust FF380 force feedback Racemaster. Steering wheel is not detect and when I set manually, game frezes and I must restart game.
Thanks! Updated F430 and FF380 columns.
Genius Speed Wheel RV FF- PC not work at all. Windows see the whell game dont. Stupid game.
@Zlizo – A user named Jakobss confirmed the Genius Speed Wheel RV FF can work: “and for users with Genius Speed Wheel RV FF in Options just need to enable Separate Pedals, but this function doesn’t work on windows 7”
See this TDU2 Forum thread for additional info. You may have to follow that tutorial, but I am not sure about the device detection
I’ve got a logitech driving force gt wheel and yep, this game needs a patch! not being able to make proper use of a 900 degree wheel sucks but it does seem that you get a bit of a compromise by moving the sensitivity setting a few notches to the right. The wheel then turns more which is better but ultimately still feels a bit dead and so takes away a lot from the whole experience.
If anyone has found a sweet spot for the settings, I’d love to know. Really helpful site by the way, nice one 🙂
No force feedback for me either on thrustmaster Ferrari GT 3-in-1
G25 here and its lovely. Just make sure you understand the forcefeedback needs to be set to inverted and for the sliders left = strong and right = weak. Bizarre but now feels great 😀
@Julian, inverted is meant for old legacy wheels.
Check out my advanced options article here that explains every slider and the FFB settings in detail, with notes from the Eden Games.
I have Logitech Momo racing wheel too, and somehow all the racing game cannot detect my wheel,
August last year its works fine… Somewhow, all the racing game detect my MOMO, but until i re-install again my Windows 7, all my racing game wont detect my MOMO, but in my windows theres no problem at all. I have install all the driver and the profiler and works just fine, and yes the game can not detect my momo wheel but its works 100% all you need is to re-map again the controller in the game, for example if I play TDU 2, my device detect only keyboard right ? so click to what ever the button you want to change, for example Left ? click on left wait a sec then turn your wheel to the left, then the game will map it, the the it will recognized as wheel and not keyboard anymore. soo change all u desire. Dont forget to reduce/raise the Wheel sensitifity, steering damping and deadzone, so the steer will turn as you desire, speed factor, etc on Controller Configuration. or your car will hard to turn. and its same as on Dirt 2, Grid, or what ever racing game you play in Windows 7. so the problem actually is just the profiler that the game dont detect (somehow) BUT wheel controller works just fine so dont freak out! its just a matter of profiler (its a mapping key, so you dont have to re-map it again), and the wheel actually WORKS !!!. well good luck, ok i need to change my lotus espirit 3, its getting sloww (TDU2)
Andrew, I’ve managed to re-map as you said. The problem is that, when the keyboard is required (eg. when you have to control your avatar), it just doesn’t work anymore. How did you solve that? thanks
You may want to change the PC Thrustmaster GT wheel. It doesn’t actualy work, I cannot detect the device, even when I take out my keyboard and mouse.
@Quinny – try manually assigning the controls like Bill or Richard above did. Probably won’t have force feedback but you can try your Thrustmaster software for resistance or centering (don’t quote me, haven’t used it :)). I updated the table to reflect the lack of FFB.
No button configuration on PS3 version! Unbelievable! Bought a Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience Racing Wheel to play and the pedals don’t work; gas and brake instead being mapped to buttons on the wheel. Anyone heard if button configuration will be made available in the future on ps3?? If not, i got to try and return my wheel!
Thanks for the usefull docs and comments, just a note for those who use a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel: try to configure buttons while leavink “keyboard” as controller, I’m trying to make the pedals work properly (however I have to admit I just ordered a G27 to overcome all these problems).
Buttons mapping easy.
If I get some more positive results I’ll post it, even if this (not bad at all “cheap” and old wheel) has not many users around:)
For any Logitech wheel users who can’t get the game to detect their wheel especially those who recently reinstalled windows:
Some games in the past have had wheel detection issues if the wheel was plugged in (USB) before being installed. Logitech wheels should be plugged in when the installation tells you, otherwise you might have a bad installation.
